Dear Sylmar Elementary Families,
It is with mixed emotions that I write this letter to tell you that this year will be my final one as Principal of Sylmar Elementary. I have been at Sylmar since 2014 and with LAUSD for thirty-six years. After much consideration, and talking it over with my family, I have decided that it is the right time for me to retire. As you can imagine, it has been a very emotional process making this decision, but it is the right decision for me. Many of you know that I was out on a medical leave for much of this year. My health is much better now, and I want to make sure that it continues to be that way.
I am so very grateful for the time I have been given at Sylmar Elementary. Thank you for all of your support, kindness, patience and friendship. During my time here, I have made so many wonderful memories and built relationships with many of you, and I will cherish these memories and friendships.
Most of all, thank you for your beautiful children. They are so very special to me and I will miss them very much. Their smiles and “good mornings” will be missed. Watching them learn is always a joy, as well as to see the tremendous progress they have made this year. Our students are kind and do work hard. Although it is hard to say goodbye to the teachers and staff, the hardest part of leaving is saying goodbye to the children.
I am confident that Local District Northeast and the San Fernando/ Sylmar Community of Schools will work closely with the school community to select a new leader.
Please accept my sincere thanks and appreciation as I enter a new phase in life. I found this quote recently and it has helped me understand these phases: “Time is a ship, not a dwelling.” Thank you for letting me travel, for a time, with you.

Estimadas Familias de Sylmar Elementary,
Es con emociones encontradas que escribo esta carta para decirles que este año será mi último año como directora de la escuela Sylmar Elementary. He estado en Sylmar desde 2014 y con LAUSD durante treinta y seis años. Después de mucha consideración y de hablarlo con mi familia, he decidido que es el momento adecuado para jubilarme. Como pueden imaginar, ha sido un proceso muy emotivo tomar esta decisión, pero es la decisión correcta para mí. Muchos de ustedes saben que estuve de baja medica durante gran parte de este año. Mi salud es mucho mejor, y quiero asegurarme de que siga siendo así.
Estoy muy agradecida por el tiempo que me han dado en Sylmar Elementary. Gracias por todo su apoyo, amabilidad, paciencia y amistad. Durante mi tiempo aquí he creado tantos recuerdos maravillosos y forjado relaciones con muchos de ustedes, y apreciare estos recuerdos y amistades.
Sobre todo, gracias por sus hermosos hijos. Son muy especiales para mi y los extrañare mucho. Extrañare sus sonrisas y sus “buenos días.” Verlos aprender siempre es una alegría, así como ver el tremendo progreso que han logrado este año. Nuestros estudiantes son amables y trabajan duro. Aunque es difícil despedirme de los maestros y otro personal, la parte más difícil de irme es despedirme de los niños.
Confió en que el Distrito Local Noreste y la Comunidad de Escuelas de San Fernando/ Sylmar trabajarán en colaboración con la comunidad escolar para seleccionar un nuevo líder.
Por favor, acepte mi mas sincero agradecimiento y aprecio al entrar en unas nueve fases de la vida. Encontré esta cita recientemente y me ha ayudado a entender estas fases: “El tiempo es un barco, no una vivienda.” Gracias por dejarme viajar, por un tiempo, con ustedes.
